Md Abdullah Hoque, Chuadanga: Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami brought out a procession and held a rally in Chuadanga on Saturday, marking the second anniversary of the July Mass Uprising and demanding the implementation of the referendum verdict, full enforcement of the July Charter, and justice for those responsible for the mass killings committed during the uprising.The programme was organised by the Chuadanga Sadar Thana unit of Jamaat-e-Islami. A brief rally was held at Shahid Abul Hasan Chattar at around 5:30 pm before a procession marched through Shahid Abul Kashem Road and concluded at the Town Football Ground.Addressing the rally as the chief guest, Chuadanga-2 lawmaker and Ameer of the district unit of Jamaat-e-Islami, Advocate Md Ruhul Amin, said the aspirations of the July Mass Uprising could only be fulfilled through the implementation of the referendum verdict and the July Charter.He also called for what he described as a swift and exemplary trial of all those responsible for the mass killings during the uprising.Ruhul Amin alleged that the country should not be allowed to become a hub of corruption and illicit financial outflows, adding that the practice of "night-time voting" must never return. He urged the government to take steps in line with public expectations, warning that otherwise people would press their demands through peaceful movements."The July Charter is not the agenda of any political party; it reflects the aspirations of the people," he said, adding that its implementation was essential to establishing a free, fair and sustainable electoral system.Speaking as a special guest, district Jamaat Secretary Advocate Md Asaduzzaman urged the government to implement the referendum verdict, saying it should respect the people's mandate. He claimed that failure to do so would not be accepted by the public.He also called on party leaders and activists to make the organisation's centrally announced programme on August 5 successful, saying it would be held at Shahid Abul Hasan Chattar in Chuadanga.A large number of leaders, activists and supporters from the district, upazila, municipality and affiliated organisations, as well as local residents, joined the procession. Participants chanted slogans calling for the implementation of the ideals of the July Mass Uprising, the establishment of justice and the protection of people's voting rights.Among others present were Sadar Upazila Jamaat Ameer Maulana Belal Hossain, District Publicity Secretary Md Mofizur Rahman, Sadar Upazila Parishad chairman candidate Anwarul Haque Mallick, Municipal Jamaat Ameer Advocate Hasibul Islam, Municipal Jamaat Secretary Md Mostafa Kamal, District Islami Chhatra Shibir President Md Sagar Ahmed, and other local leaders of the party and its affiliated bodies.
