Abdulla Haq, Chuadanga: A family dispute in Chuadanga’s Alamdanga upazila has allegedly escalated into a dramatic act of property destruction after the home of a Malaysian expatriate was reportedly demolished with an excavator by his father-in-law and relatives.The incident took place around 10:00 am on Sunday in Khejurtala village under Nagdah Union, triggering widespread discussion in the locality. Videos and photographs of the demolition have since circulated on social media.According to local residents and allegations made by the affected family, the expatriate, Rafiuddin, son of the late Ramjan Ali of Khejurtala village, first married Chhoniya Khatun, daughter of Shahidul Islam from the same village. During his prolonged stay in Malaysia, the couple reportedly experienced marital difficulties, which local residents said were later resolved through mediation at the police station.After returning to Bangladesh, Rafiuddin married Rima Khatun, daughter of Mukul Hossain, also of Khejurtala village. Family sources alleged that about a year after his second marriage, he brought his first wife back into his household, a move that reportedly angered members of his second wife's family.The victim’s family alleged that on Sunday morning Mukul Hossain and several of his relatives arrived with an excavator and demolished Rafiuddin’s residence and other structures on the property. A large number of local residents reportedly witnessed the incident.Several villagers said that although Rafiuddin’s personal decisions had become the subject of local discussion, taking the law into one's own hands by demolishing a residence could not be justified. They argued that any family dispute should be resolved through legal channels rather than acts of retaliation.Borhan Uddin, president of the Nagdah Union BNP, described the incident as unfortunate. He said Rima Khatun was "a polite and well-mannered woman" and acknowledged that she had suffered emotionally. However, he added that the appropriate course of action should have been to seek legal remedies instead of resorting to the destruction of property.When contacted, Alamdanga Police Station Officer-in-Charge Bani Israel said police were aware of the incident."We have learned about the matter. If a written complaint is filed, we will investigate and take legal action in accordance with the law," the OC said.As of the filing of this report, it could not be confirmed whether any formal complaint had been lodged with the police. The allegations made by the victim's family could not be independently verified, and no statement from Mukul Hossain or other accused family members was immediately available. Police said further action would depend on the outcome of any formal complaint and subsequent investigation.
