Khaled Ahmed: The Rotary Club of Pabna New City has released 10,000 fish fry into local water bodies in Pabna as part of an initiative aimed at conserving aquatic resources, increasing the breeding of native fish and protecting biodiversity.The fish fry release programme was held at 2pm on Saturday (August 15) at Char Koshakhali Launch Ghat and Banglabazar areas under Dogachhi Union of Pabna Sadar upazila. The programme was organised under a project led by Rotarian Sirajul Islam, president of the Rotary Club of Pabna New City.Among the released fish were catla, silver carp and rohu, along with fry of several other species.Rotarian PP Abul Hossain PHF, chartered president of the Rotary Club of Pabna New City, attended the programme as the chief guest.Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) Md Sakhawat Hossain and Alimuzzaman Biswas Poni, deputy managing director of Maspo Group, were present as special guests.The programme was conducted under the overall supervision of Rotary Club of Pabna New City President Rotarian Sirajul Islam PHF. Project Chair Rotarian Azizul Hakim Shihab, project members Rotarians Shahed Hossain Tushar and Rashedul Islam, Rotarian PP Altaf Hossain MPHF, Rotarian Advocate Md Belal Hossain, Rotarian Mukaddes Alam PHF (IPP), Rotarian PP Abu Md Morshed PHF, Rotarian Nurunnabi Khan Humu, Rotarian SM Alauddin, Rotarian Dr Manjura Rahman, Past President (PE) Rotarian Mostafa Riaz Shahriar PHF, Rotarians Masud Rana, Waliul Islam, Zillur Rahman PHF, Rajibur Rahman Rintu, Alhaj Rais Uddin and Md Alauddin, among others, attended the event.Around 50 Rotarians of the club also took part in the programme.Club officials said the initiative would contribute to the conservation of aquatic resources and the protection of biodiversity while creating greater public awareness about the importance of preserving native fish species. They also expressed hope that increasing the availability of fish in local water bodies would help boost fish production in the area.The programme followed the successful completion of the club's month-long tree plantation campaign, reflecting its continued focus on environmental conservation and community welfare.The day's activities concluded with a lunch attended by the participating Rotarians, adding a social dimension to the environmental initiative.The release of the fish fry is expected to benefit local aquatic ecosystems while encouraging communities to take a more active role in protecting natural water bodies and their biological resources.
