Zakir Farazi: Self-reliant country in silver fisheries, Bangladesh first and foremost” – Keeping this theme in mind, a colorful rally, fish release, inaugural ceremony and discussion meeting of the National Fisheries Week 2026 were held in Pirojpur.
The rally, jointly implemented by the district
administration and the District Fisheries Department, started from in front of
the Pirojpur Deputy Commissioner’s office on Sunday (August 16) and ended at
the Pirojpur Sadar Upazila Parishad. After the rally, fish were released in the
Pirojpur Sadar Upazila pond. After the fish release, the Fisheries Week 2026
was inaugurated by releasing balloons in the Upazila Parishad premises. Later,
a discussion meeting was organized at the Shaheed Omar Faruk Auditorium of
Sadar Upazila.
The event was attended by the Chief Guest
(virtually) by the State Minister for Housing and Public Works of the
Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Ahmed Sohel Manjur, MP.
The event was presided over by the Deputy
Commissioner and District Magistrate of Pirojpur, Abu Sayeed, and was attended
by the following special guests: Pirojpur District Council Administrator
Principal Alamgir Hossain, Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle)
Nasrin Jahan, Pirojpur Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mamunur Rashid, and
District BNP Member Secretary SM Saidul Islam Kismat.
The welcome address was delivered by District
Fisheries Officer Sajeeb Sannamat.
The event was moderated by Jianagar Upazila
Fisheries Officer Md. Farhad Hossain.
The speakers in the discussion meeting laid
special emphasis on the cooperation and awareness of people from all walks of
life in protecting the silver fish resources of Bangladesh, increasing
production, and ensuring sustainable fish farming.
Local dignitaries, government and private
officials, and fishermen were present at the event.
