CanCham Bangladesh, BBCC Sign MoU to Boost Bilateral Trade and Investment

Desk Report: The Canada-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CanCham Bangladesh) and the Bangladesh Business Chamber of Canada (BBCC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen bilateral trade, investment and commercial cooperation between Bangladesh and Canada.

The agreement is expected to create new opportunities for businesses in both countries by facilitating investment, expanding export markets and establishing stronger links between Bangladeshi and Canadian entrepreneurs.

Under the MoU, the two chambers will work jointly to identify and support investment opportunities in Bangladesh, increase exports of Bangladeshi products to the Canadian market and promote Canadian products for export to Bangladesh.

The partnership will also encourage cooperation in areas of mutual business interest, strengthen commercial networks and create opportunities for members of both organisations to explore potential partnerships.

The MoU was signed on behalf of the Bangladesh Business Chamber of Canada by its Vice President, Ferdous Ahmed, while CanCham Bangladesh President Mohammad Kamal Uddin signed on behalf of his organisation.

CanCham Bangladesh Treasurer Ali Bakhtiar Mahmud and Bangladesh Terry Towel & Linen Manufacturers and Exporters Association President M. Shahadat Hossain Sohel were also present at the signing ceremony.

The agreement comes at a time when Bangladesh is seeking to diversify its export destinations, attract more foreign direct investment and strengthen economic partnerships with international markets.

Canada, with its substantial consumer market and demand for a wide range of imported products, offers opportunities for Bangladeshi exporters, particularly in sectors such as ready-made garments, textiles, home textiles, leather goods, pharmaceuticals and other manufactured products.

On the other hand, stronger commercial engagement could help Bangladesh explore Canadian expertise, technology, products and investment in different sectors of its economy.

The two chambers are expected to play a facilitating role by connecting businesses, exchanging market information and helping entrepreneurs identify potential trade and investment opportunities.

The partnership could also contribute to greater private-sector engagement in bilateral economic relations, particularly by creating a platform for businesses to move beyond traditional trade links towards broader investment and commercial cooperation.

CanCham Bangladesh works to promote business and commercial relations between Canada and Bangladesh, while the Bangladesh Business Chamber of Canada supports trade and business connections between the two countries.

Business leaders see stronger institutional cooperation between the chambers as an opportunity to expand bilateral economic engagement and open new avenues for entrepreneurs in both markets.
