Khilafat Majlis calls for establishing Khilafat to ensure humanity’s liberation

Leaders stress full implementation of Islamic principles, urge party to strengthen organisational activities

Desk Report: Khilafat Majlis leaders have called for establishing Khilafat (Islamic governance) and implementing the complete teachings of Islam, saying that humanity’s liberation and the establishment of a just society depend on upholding the principles of the faith.

They made the call at a meeting of the party’s Central Advisory Council held at its central office in Paltan, Dhaka, on Saturday morning.

The leaders said Khilafat Majlis was founded on December 8, 1989, through the joint initiative of righteous Islamic scholars and religious-minded intellectuals, with the objective of establishing an Islamic system of governance.

Since its inception, the organisation has continued its activities through constitutional and democratic means, overcoming various challenges and obstacles, they said.

They also highlighted the party’s role in different movements and struggles in defence of national interests, the Muslim community and Islam.

The leaders expressed satisfaction that Khilafat Majlis had gradually established a positive image as an acceptable and balanced political organisation among people from different sections of society.

They stressed the need to maintain this public confidence and strengthen the organisation through timely programmes and effective organisational initiatives.

The meeting also discussed Bangladesh’s political developments following the series of coups and changes of power in 1975.

The leaders observed that although people initially welcomed those changes, they ultimately failed to enjoy their long-term benefits. They further claimed that the revival of the Awami League after the BAKSAL period paved the way for another prolonged period of authoritarian rule in Bangladesh.

The meeting was presided over by Ameer of Khilafat Majlis Maulana Abdul Basit Azad, while Secretary General Dr Ahmad Abdul Qader conducted the proceedings.

Among those present at the meeting were Maulana Noman Mazhari, Maulana ZH Shamim, Dr Abdullah Khan, Advocate AKM Badruddoza, Dr Yusuf Ali, Mufti Abdus Shakur Mahmud Qasemi, Maulana Qari Sirajul Islam, Maulana Asadullah, Dr Abu Hossain, Maulana Ali Ahmed and Sikandar Hayat.

Members of the Central Executive Council attending the meeting included Joint Secretary General Advocate Jahangir Hossain, Dr Mostafizur Rahman Faisal, Professor Abdul Jalil, Central Organising Secretary Advocate Mizanur Rahman, Central Industry Affairs Secretary Aminur Rahman Firoz, Central Training Secretary Zahirul Islam, Central Publicity Secretary Engineer Abdul Hafiz Khasru, Central Labour Affairs Secretary Lecturer Abdul Karim, Mufti Abdul Haque Amini, Maulana Abdus Samad and Lt Col Dr Emdadul Haque.

The leaders reiterated their commitment to advancing the party’s organisational activities and pursuing its founding objective of establishing Khilafat and the complete teachings of Islam.
