Bhola Correspondent: The International Day to End Obstetric Fistula 2026 was observed in Bhola under the theme “Her Health is a Right: Invest in Ending Fistula and Childbirth Injuries,” with a range of events aimed at raising awareness and strengthening prevention efforts.
Bhola Civil Surgeon’s Office organized the day’s program included a discussion meeting, an awareness rally, and other activities. In the morning, a rally marched through various streets of the town to promote safe motherhood and highlight the importance of preventing obstetric fistula.
At a discussion meeting held later in the Civil Surgeon’s Office conference room, Dr. Md. Tayebur Rahman, Superintendent of the 250-bed General Hospital, attended as chief guest. The meeting was presided over by Bhola District Civil Surgeon Dr. Md. Monirul Islam.
Speakers said obstetric fistula is a preventable and treatable health condition. Ensuring safe childbirth, they noted, could prevent most cases. They urged coordinated efforts to eliminate obstetric fistula by 2030.
Special programs were also held at the Fistula Corner of Bhola 250-bed General Hospital. Similar rallies, discussions, and awareness activities took place in Charfasson and other upazilas of the district.
Two individuals were honored for their contributions to identifying and referring fistula patients. The event also featured the emotional testimony of a woman who shared her journey of recovery after receiving treatment.
UNFPA and CIPRB supported the program, where officials from the health and family planning departments, doctors, nurses, midwives, NGO representatives, and journalists were also present.
