45 days on, DPC GS attackers still free: Police inaction or silence?

Gazipur Correspondent: Forty-five days after Dhaka Press Club General Secretary and journalist Mosleh Uddin Bachchu was brutally beaten and left for dead in Gazipur, Joydebpur Police Station is yet to arrest a single accused, raising questions over the force’s failure or alleged mysterious silence.

Despite the prime suspect, notorious criminal Gani Mia, and his gang roaming openly “under the nose of police,” law enforcement has not made any arrests so far, local sources and journalist community members allege.

Attack and police inaction: M Uddin Bachchu was attacked and severely beaten by assailants allegedly led by Gani Mia. More than a month and a half has passed since the incident, but Joydebpur Police has failed to detain even one member of the identified criminal group, triggering anger among journalists.

Journalists condemn, threaten tougher movement: The journalism community has strongly condemned the cowardly attack on a fellow journalist and protested police inaction. They questioned why police remain silent while the criminals move freely in the area.

“We strongly condemn and protest this heinous attack on the journalist community,” said colleagues of Bachchu. “If the accused are not arrested immediately, we will launch a tougher movement.”

Police officials from Joydebpur Police Station could not be reached for comment on the progress of the investigation at the time of filing this report.
