Probe Report on Deaths of Six Newborns at Ad-Din Hospital Submitted to Health Minister

Mohammad Abu Hanif: The high-level investigation committee formed to examine the deaths of six newborns at Ad-Din Medical College Hospital in Moghbazar, Dhaka, has submitted its report to Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Hossain.

According to a press release issued by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Wednesday, the committee handed over its findings to the minister following the completion of its inquiry into the incident.

The ministry also stated that a separate investigation committee formed by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) is scheduled to submit its report on Thursday (June 4).

Health Minister Sakhawat Hossain is expected to brief the media at 4:00 pm on Thursday, where he will present key findings of the investigation reports and outline the government's next steps regarding the incident.

The tragic deaths occurred on the morning of May 27, when six newborns died in the post-delivery ward of Ad-Din Medical College Hospital. The incident sparked widespread public concern, prompting authorities to launch multiple investigations to determine the cause.

Following the incident, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare formed a three-member high-level investigation committee. The DGHS also established a separate three-member committee to conduct an independent inquiry.

In addition, the hospital authorities formed an internal investigation committee to examine whether any negligence, management failures, or operational shortcomings contributed to the deaths. The hospital's committee has already submitted its report to the ministry.

Sources concerned said that a clearer picture regarding the actual causes of the newborns' deaths and any potential accountability will emerge once the full findings of the investigation reports are made public.
