Shibganj Welfare Association, Dhaka, joins government campaign to build a greener BangladeshRuhul Amin, Bogura: A day-long extensive tree plantation program was held in Shibganj upazila and the newly formed Mokamtola upazila of Bogura on Friday to protect the environment and support the government’s tree plantation campaign.The initiative was organized by Shibganj Upazila (Bogura) Welfare Association, Dhaka. From morning, saplings were transported by pickup vans and vehicles and distributed across schools, madrasas, orphanages, mosques and among the general public.Fruit-bearing, timber and medicinal saplings were planted on the premises of Maidanhatta Mosharraf Hossain College, Aliarhat Rokeya Sattar High School, Betgari Mirbari Orphanage and Mosque, Amtoli Model Academy and School, Maidanhatta Madrasa and Orphanage, Amtoli Al Furkan Academy and Betgari Hajipara Mosque. Free saplings were also handed out to local residents.Brigadier General (Retd.) Md. Nasimul Ghani, Vice President of Shibganj Upazila (Bogura) Welfare Association, Dhaka, was present at the program. Other association leaders who attended included Joint Secretary Agriculturist Muhammad Tahajjat Ali, Organizing Secretary Abdul Alim, Office Secretary Abu Bakar Siddique, Social Welfare Secretary Mofachcher Ali, Executive Member Israil, and Member and Editor of Akash-Jomin newspaper Mir Liakat Ali.Former Chairman of Maidanhatta Union Parishad and Senior Vice President of Upazila BNP Md. Mahbubul Alam Manik, along with local dignitaries Masudar Rahman Helal, Abdul Aziz, Ashraful Haque Dony, Mehedul Islam, Rashedul Islam, Delwar Hossain, Moksedur Rahman, Abdul Latif Mandal and Saju, also joined the drive.Teachers, imams, students and community members from various educational and religious institutions took part spontaneously.Speaking at the event, speakers said there is no alternative to tree plantation to build a green, safe and livable Bangladesh for future generations. Under the slogan “One Tree, One Life — Plant Trees, Save the Environment,” they urged every citizen to plant and take care of at least one tree to combat the adverse impacts of climate change, preserve biodiversity and maintain ecological balance.The Shibganj Upazila (Bogura) Welfare Association, Dhaka, said that as part of its social responsibility it will continue such activities related to environmental conservation, education, human welfare and public service in the future.
