LAXMIPUR CORRESPONDENT: A Bangladeshi expatriate living in Italy has accused his former wife of allegedly misappropriating nearly Tk 3 crore from his earnings and ending their 25-year marriage to marry another man.
The incident reportedly took place in the North Raipur area of Char Mohana Union in Raipur upazila of Laxmipur.
In a video message released to the media on Thursday (August 13), Zakir Hossain alleged that his former wife, Jesmin Akter Munnni, married a man whom he described as her longtime alleged lover on July 15.
Zakir claimed that nearly Tk 3 crore of his earnings during his years as an expatriate in Italy had been misappropriated before the marriage.
He further alleged that after ending their 25-year marital relationship, Jesmin left their four children with him and married another man. He also alleged that his former in-laws and Jesmin's brother, Saiful Islam, were involved in the matter.
Zakir called for a proper investigation into the allegations and demanded justice.
However, Jesmin denied the allegations. She claimed that while Zakir was in Italy, he subjected her to physical and mental abuse. She said she had been left with no alternative but to marry another person.
Jesmin also rejected the allegation that she had misappropriated money from her former husband, describing the claim as false.
Her brother Saiful Islam also denied any involvement in the breakdown of his sister's marriage.
Local residents said the two sides had been making counter-allegations for a long time over their marital dispute.
Raipur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Nizam Uddin Bhuiyan said a case relating to the matter was already pending before a court. He added that the police station had also received a complaint and that legal action would be taken after an investigation.
As the allegations remain disputed, the matter is now subject to investigation and judicial proceedings.
