Jamaat announces third-phase march to press 7-point demands; 1,500-vehicle convoy to start from Baitul Mukarram South Gate

MM Rahmatullah: The 11-party alliance led by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami will hold its longest long march so far on Saturday, October 31, from Dhaka to Kushtia via Khulna, Jashore and Jhenaidah to press a seven-point charter of demands.

The announcement was made on Friday at a press conference at the party's central office in Moghbazar, Dhaka. The conference was addressed by Jamaat Secretary General and former MP Mia Golam Parwar.

He also alleged deterioration of law and order, including killings, mob violence, teenage gangs and internal clashes, and claimed partisan influence in the Secretariat, PMO, district administration, judiciary, Election Commission, autonomous bodies, local government and educational institutions.

On corruption, he said, "The pattern of extortion has not changed, only the identity and party name of the extortionists have changed," citing allegations in haats, bazaars, ghats, sand quarries, transport and tender business.

Route and Schedule: The alliance said the march will cover about 410 kilometres, making it longer than the previous two phases.
