Phulpur administration removes illegal structures, posters in eviction drive

Mijan Akanda, Phulpur: The Phulpur Upazila administration has conducted a mobile court drive to remove illegal structures occupying public roads and pedestrian spaces, as well as unauthorised posters displayed on walls and utility poles.

The drive was carried out on Sunday along the busy stretch from Amuakanda Bridge intersection to the roundabout in Phulpur Municipality, aiming to ease traffic congestion, ensure safe pedestrian movement and restore order in public spaces.

During the operation, illegally displayed posters were removed from different roadside walls and poles. The administration also demolished several unauthorised shops set up on the bridge's footpath, which had been obstructing the movement of pedestrians.

Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Md Shafiqul Islam led the eviction drive.

Local pedestrians and residents welcomed the initiative, saying that illegal occupation of footpaths and indiscriminate poster displays had long caused considerable inconvenience to people using the busy road.

They expressed hope that the administration's timely intervention would reduce public suffering, ensure smoother pedestrian movement and help restore the town's cleanliness, discipline and aesthetic appeal.

The operation is seen as an important step towards reclaiming public spaces and making the municipal area more pedestrian-friendly.
