Speakers at the meeting said the aspirations of July are being “sadly ignored.” They alleged that although the BNP formed the government following the July mass uprising, the spirit of July is not reflected in the BNP government. Instead, the government is “walking the same old path of fascism.”
They claimed that immediately after coming to power, BNP filled all state institutions, including City Corporations, with party loyalists, turning them into partisan entities. “Even school, college, madrasa, and mosque committees have been taken over by government party men,” they said.
The leaders further alleged that the government is now attempting to take control of financial institutions, including Islami Bank, and is creating “a web of discrimination everywhere.” They said the government bypassed the July Charter despite the referendum verdict.
“No one will be allowed to betray the blood of July martyrs and the injured. There will be no compromise. Jamaat-e-Islami will maintain its uncompromising stance on the implementation of the July Charter and will compel the government to do so,” the speakers added.
The meeting also finalized a month-long program by Dhaka Metropolitan South Jamaat to observe the 2nd anniversary of the July 2024 mass uprising. The month-long program will be formally announced on Wednesday, July 1.
