Md. Mijanur Rahman Akanda, Phulpur: Consumers in Phulpur upazila of Mymensingh have expressed serious dissatisfaction over the quality of products supplied by the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB), alleging that several essential items distributed through the government’s subsidised programme are of substandard quality.
On Monday morning, several TCB cardholders who collected their monthly commodities from the Goaydanga dealer point under Rambhadrapur Union visited the office of the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) to lodge formal complaints.
The consumers alleged that the detergent powder marketed under the brand name "Saf" fails to produce adequate foam, while the supplied soap causes skin irritation. They also claimed that the lentils take an unusually long time to cook and that low-quality palm oil is being supplied instead of soybean oil.
Demanding the withdrawal of the allegedly substandard products, the consumers urged the authorities to ensure the supply of quality goods under the TCB programme. They also warned that they would reject such products if similar issues persist in the future.
Responding to the complaints, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mohammad Yusuf said the grievances raised by the consumers would be forwarded to the higher authorities along with recommendations for necessary action.
