NCP leader assaulted, house vandalized over alleged remarks against PM, ministers

Raipur Correspondent: Anwar Hosen, a central organizer of Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP), was allegedly assaulted and the house of another NCP leader, Tanzim Hosen Emon, was vandalized in Raipur Upazila, Lakshmipur. Local BNP leaders and activists have been accused of the attack. Several journalists were reportedly harassed while gathering information, and police later detained Anwar Hosen.

Alleged derogatory remarks spark confrontation: According to local sources, Anwar Hosen, who was in the area during Eid holidays, entered into a verbal altercation with local BNP leaders and activists Friday night at Basabari Bazar. He was accused of making offensive comments about BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, the Home Minister, the Water Resources Minister, and the local MP on social media and in public. The altercation later turned physical, and Anwar was allegedly beaten, witnesses claimed.

House siege and vandalism: After the incident, Anwar reportedly called Upazila BNP President Nazmul Islam Mithu to inform him. An argument ensued over the phone. Later at night, BNP leaders and activists allegedly surrounded Anwar’s house. He then took shelter at Tanzim Hosen Emon’s residence, which was also vandalized, allegations state. Police later detained both Anwar Hosen and Tanzim Hosen Emon and handed them over to the police station.

Supporters of Anwar alleged that he was beaten again while being taken into police custody. Police reached the spot and brought the situation under control.

Police, party reactions: Upazila BNP President Nazmul Islam Mithu could not be reached for comment despite multiple attempts over his mobile phone.

Ibrahim Khalil, Joint Member Secretary of NCP Lakshmipur district, said, “We have learned about the attack on him. We will sit with our district committee and decide the next course of action.”

Raipur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shahin Mia said a case has been filed against Anwar Hosen today in the Cyber Court for “making derogatory remarks about the Prime Minister, Home Minister, Water Resources Minister, and local MP on social media.”

Further details are awaited as the investigation continues.
