Golam Mostafa, Sirajganj: A proposed mega development project aimed at transforming the Chalan Beel region into a world-class tourism destination has gained fresh momentum, with relevant government ministries and agencies reportedly initiating preliminary activities following the Prime Minister's positive consideration of the proposal.
The project, titled
"Integrated Chalan Beel Eco-Tourism, Modern Recreation City and Children's
Water Park Development Project," is expected to become a landmark
initiative for the socio-economic development of northern Bangladesh,
particularly the Raiganj-Tarash-Salanga region of Sirajganj.
According to sources,
Member of Parliament for Sirajganj-3 (Raiganj-Tarash-Salanga), VP Aynul Haque,
has been actively working to harness the vast tourism potential of Chalan Beel
by developing it into an international-standard tourist destination. The
proposed mega project has been prepared under his direct guidance and
supervision.
The project's
comprehensive profile and concept paper were prepared by Mahbub Alam Sheikh,
Personal Officer to the MP, following detailed assessments of the region's
geographical characteristics, tourism prospects, economic impact, employment
opportunities and environmental sustainability.
The proposed
development includes environmentally friendly eco-resorts, modern motels, a
children's water park, cable car facilities, boating and water tourism,
bird-watching towers, a cultural complex, floating restaurants, food courts,
tourism police outposts and a range of family-oriented recreational facilities
designed to meet international standards.
Stakeholders believe
the project will stimulate significant economic activities across northern
Bangladesh by creating thousands of direct and indirect employment
opportunities. It is also expected to expand business prospects for small and
medium enterprises (SMEs), attract private investment and strengthen women's
participation in the local economy.
Local political leaders
and community representatives say the initiative reflects MP VP Aynul Haque's
election commitment to promoting sustainable development, generating
employment, improving infrastructure and building a technology-driven,
investment-friendly parliamentary constituency.
Besides tourism, the
lawmaker has reportedly prioritized development initiatives in education,
agriculture, transport and employment, with the Chalan Beel tourism project
emerging as one of his flagship programmes.
Speaking about the initiative,
MP VP Aynul Haque said, "Chalan Beel is not merely a wetland; it
represents the livelihood, culture and immense potential of the people of
northern Bangladesh. We want to preserve its natural ecosystem and biodiversity
while placing it on the international tourism map. Once implemented, this
project will open new horizons for employment, investment, tourism and regional
development."
Mahbub Alam Sheikh, who
prepared the project profile, said the proposal was developed in line with the
MP's vision, focusing on the region's long-term development prospects, economic
significance and tourism potential.
Residents of the area
have expressed optimism that, with continued support from the government and
the relevant ministries, the proposed Chalan Beel international tourism project
will move forward swiftly, ushering in a new era of economic growth and
sustainable development for northern Bangladesh.
