30th death anniversary of former SP Jamshed Uddin Bhuiyan observed

Khaled Ahmed, Pabna: The 30th death anniversary of former Pabna Superintendent of Police (SP) Jamshed Uddin Bhuiyan, who died in a tragic road accident while serving the district, was observed in Pabna on Sunday with prayers, Quran recitation, discussions and a meal for students of a local orphanage and madrasa.

The programme was held after Zuhr prayers at the Pabna Sadar Graveyard Marjina Latif Trust Hafizia Madrasa and Orphanage. The organisers arranged a Quran completion ceremony, recitation of Darud Sharif, a special prayer for the departed soul and a discussion on the life and service of the late police officer.

Prominent social worker and philanthropist Principal Alhaj Mahatab Uddin Biswas attended the programme as the chief guest. In his speech, he urged members of the Pabna police force to perform their duties with dedication and integrity, while praying for the eternal peace of the late SP.

He also announced a donation of Tk 50,000 for the young students of the madrasa and orphanage, where more than 100 children are receiving Quran memorisation education.

The programme was conducted by journalist MG Biplab Chowdhury, editor of Dainik Pabnar Samay and The Daily Morning Touch. Chowdhury is also the founder of a healthcare centre established in memory of the late police officer.

Additional Superintendent of Police, Sadar Circle, Shariful Islam; Assistant Superintendent of Police Abu Zahid Al Borhan; Pabna District Truck Owners Group President Mozammel Haque Kabir; former Pabna Press Club president ABM Fazlur Rahman; and Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Tarikul Islam spoke as special guests.

The speakers described Jamshed Uddin Bhuiyan as an example of a people-oriented police officer whose professional values and dedication remain an inspiration for members of the police force.

A milad and doa mahfil was also scheduled at the Pabna Police Lines Mosque after Maghrib prayers at the initiative of the Pabna police superintendent. Separately, members of the late officer's family arranged a grave visit, doa mahfil and community meal in Kishoreganj.

Among those present at the anniversary programme were Assistant Superintendent of Police Khandaker Shafik Rahman; engineer Asaduzzaman Shipul Biswas, director of Mahatab Biswas Real Estate and Properties; former general secretary of the Reporters' Unity Kazi Mahbub Morshed Babla; Press Club office secretary Moniruzzaman Shipon; CNF TV Chairman Khaled Ahmed; Madrasa and Orphanage Director Maulana Abdul Quddus; Pabnar Samay staff reporter Subahan Maruf; Desh Edition Pabna correspondent Sulaiman Hossain; Imam Ghazzali Girls School and College MLS Assistant Abdul Halim; Press Club office assistant Saikat Hossain Himel; as well as teachers and more than a hundred students of the institution.

Before the midday meal, the concluding DUA was conducted by Azizul Haque, the muhtamim (head) of the trust.

Jamshed Uddin Bhuiyan was killed on August 16, 1996, when the vehicle carrying him from Ishwardi towards Pabna was involved in a road accident at Maligachha intersection. His driver Ashraf and two bodyguards also died in the accident.

Three decades after his death, the former SP continues to be remembered by people in Pabna as a compassionate and public-friendly police officer. His legacy has also been kept alive through various public-service initiatives established in Pabna at the initiative of journalist MG Biplab Chowdhury.

The observance of his 30th death anniversary once again highlighted the enduring respect of the people of Pabna for a police officer whose service, humanity and commitment to the public remain part of the district's collective memory.
