Magura Dist Correspondent: A school teacher in Magura has alleged severe damage to her hair after receiving a hair coloring service at a local beauty parlour, leading to a complaint with the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection and a fine against the establishment.
Nahida Akter Sathi, a school teacher, filed a written complaint stating that on March 16, she went to “N.S. Beauty Parlour – Makeover with Shoshi” in Magura’s Council Para to get her hair colored and styled ahead of Eid. According to her complaint, the parlour staff applied bleach and color to her hair for about 11 to 12 hours.
Sathi claims her hair was severely damaged afterward, with patches breaking off and some areas developing bald spots. “I went for beauty treatment, but they ruined my hair so badly that I couldn’t appear in public. My hair has become frizzy and is breaking. It may take two to three years to recover,” she said.
She said she paid Tk 5,000 for the service and later spent an additional Tk 6,000-7,000 on medical treatment and medicines.
Following a hearing, Assistant Director of the Magura District Office of the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection, Md. Sajal Ahmed, fined N.S. Beauty Parlour Tk 10,000 and settled the matter. However, Sathi said she is not satisfied, arguing that stronger action should have been taken against the parlour.
She alleged that after posting about the incident on social media, several other women contacted her with similar complaints against the same parlour. Sathi also claimed she faced threats from a person identifying himself as a relative of the parlour owner, and filed a General Diary [GD No. 805] with Magura Sadar Police Station on May 12.
The teacher further accused a local journalist, Sazzad Hossain of Magura Press Club, of intimidating her and pressuring her to settle the matter. She said she has an audio recording of the alleged conversation. “I want the licence of such establishments cancelled. The government should take strict action against those who damage people’s beauty through unskilled services,” she said.
The parlour owners — identified in the complaint as Shoshi, Maisha, and Nishi, daughters of Touhidul Islam — were present at the hearing on May 14 but did not provide a statement to the media. Assistant Director Md. Sajal Ahmed also did not give an official statement but directed both parties to refrain from posting on Facebook or issuing threats over the phone.
Magura Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md. Abdullah Al Mamun confirmed the GD and said Sub-Inspector Md. Faruk Hossain has been assigned to take necessary legal action.
