Bangladesh, Algeria Eye Deeper Cooperation in Energy, Trade and Skilled Workforce

Diplomatic Correspondent: Bangladesh and Algeria have reaffirmed their commitment to expanding bilateral cooperation, with a renewed focus on energy security, trade, investment and skilled manpower during a high-level meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday.


Ambassador of Algeria to Bangladesh, H.E. Mr. Abdelouahab Saidani, paid a courtesy call on H.E. Ms. Shama Obaed Islam, M.P., Hon’ble State Minister for Foreign Affairs, on July 9.


During the meeting, both sides reaffirmed the longstanding friendship and growing partnership between the two countries while exploring new opportunities to broaden cooperation across a range of sectors.


The State Minister underscored the importance of strengthening collaboration in the energy sector to support Bangladesh's long-term energy security. She also highlighted the potential for enhanced cooperation in trade, investment, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, fisheries and aquaculture, shipbuilding and human resource development.


Emphasizing the growing demand for skilled and semi-skilled workers, the State Minister called for closer collaboration in manpower recruitment and welcomed the ongoing efforts to establish a Joint Consultative Commission between the two countries.


She further stressed the importance of increasing people-to-people exchanges and encouraged more high-level visits to deepen the partnership between the two brotherly nations.


Ambassador Saidani expressed Algeria's interest in expanding cooperation in key sectors, including energy, agriculture, pharmaceuticals and shipbuilding. He also underscored the importance of high-level exchanges to further strengthen the existing bilateral relationship.


The meeting reflected the shared commitment of Bangladesh and Algeria to elevating their bilateral engagement through closer economic cooperation and stronger diplomatic ties.
